Kearl is one of Canada’s highest-quality oil sands deposits, developed using advanced mining methods and next-generation technologies. Since startup in 2013, Kearl has become a cornerstone of Imperial’s upstream business, producing approximately 280,000 barrels per day. Kearl operates as a fully integrated Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) mine, utilizing Caterpillar Minestar technology with a fleet of autonomous CAT 797 haul trucks. Our success relies on the seamless integration of people, process, and technology to safely deliver reliable and efficient production. The Mine Production organization is seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators and Mine Dispatch / AHS Support personnel to support safe, efficient, and reliable mining operations. Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mining, oil sands, or heavy industrial environments
  • Heavy equipment operating experience is required (multi-equipment experience considered an asset)
  • Experience with or exposure to autonomous mining systems (AHS) is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar Minestar, Modular, or similar dispatch systems is preferred
  • Strong safety mindset and ability to work in a high-production, dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in real time
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts in all weather conditions
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills (advanced skills preferred for dispatch roles)
  • All applicants who receive an offer of employment must be eligible to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions on their start date. Proof of eligibility shall be in the form of a Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, Canadian citizenship certificate, Canadian certificate of permanent residence, Canadian open work permit or receipt from Immigration Canada of an application for a post-graduate work permit. Proof of eligibility must be current and valid (not expired, cancelled or voided). Proof of eligibility will be required if an offer of employment is made. Failure to provide proof of eligibility at least six (6) weeks prior to the start date may result in the offer of employment being rescinded.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate large mining equipment including dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, in an autonomous mining environment and in accordance with site procedures and Imperial standards.
  • Complete thorough pre‑use inspections and accurately document equipment condition
  • Identify, report, and respond to operational or equipment concerns to prevent downtime and maintain asset integrity
  • Follow all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) requirements; actively participate in hazard identification and risk management
  • Work collaboratively with dispatch, maintenance, and supervisory teams to achieve production and safety objectives
  • Participate in training, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational readiness activities
  • Execute and adjust production plans using Caterpillar Minestar to meet operational targets
  • Monitor and optimize fleet performance, including cycle times, utilization, and shovel productivity
  • Coordinate material movement, equipment allocation, and operational priorities
  • Maintain alignment between field conditions and the mine model (roads, zones, shovel/dump locations, hazards)
  • Identify road conditions, traffic flow issues, and system inefficiencies and support corrective actions
  • Support AHS operations including troubleshooting, system interventions, and recovery coordination
  • Maintain accurate shift communication, documentation, and handovers
  • Collaborate with field and control room teams to ensure consistent execution of the mine plan
  • Support emergency response and ensure compliance with all safety and operational requirements
