About The Position

Wieland is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator II. The Heavy Equipment Operator II will be responsible for driving and controlling large equipment and vehicles while always maintaining acute awareness of surroundings to prevent damage to property. The ideal candidate should have proven heavy equipment driving experience, require little supervision, demonstrate initiative, and have extreme attention to detail. This candidate must also be able to work within a team environment, be organized and flexible, able to work on multiple tasks. This role is located in Granite City, IL, and will be fully on-site.

Requirements

3-5 years of heavy machine operation experience with process or production equipment in an industrial work environment.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines.
Adherence to health and safety regulations - Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. Hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, gloves, full body harnesses, or other protective equipment as required by the location and work performed. Some tasks may require work in confined spaces.
Use of a respirator may be required for certain tasks. Must be medically cleared, fit-tested, and qualified to wear a respirator when applicable. Must maintain appropriate personal grooming to ensure an effective respirator seal.
Self-motivated person with mechanical ability and problem-solving skills.
Ability to perform manual work requires periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Ability to receive direction/guidance from leadership.
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Good communication and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
Ability to read documents and/or written directives and make simple arithmetic calculations.
Maintain safety as a high priority in all aspects of responsibility.
Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.

Willingness to follow direction of department leader(s).
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience on Shear, Material Handler, and Front Loader.
Have complete knowledge of machine settings.
Mastery of equipment limitations- shearing dimensions, weight capacities, etc.
Flexibility to work in multiple locations and on various pieces of equipment.
Check and maintain equipment functionality often.
Knowledge to identify when equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.
Ensure material quality, reducing material contamination.
Identify process improvements for future cost reduction.
Collaborate with other departments to achieve company goals.
Ability to coach other Heavy Equipment Operators in safe and efficient operation of machines.
Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety or HR.
Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in job orientations and training.
Other duties assigned with flexibility to work in other departments as needed.
