About The Position

Operates heavy and specialized equipment for the installation, maintenance, and repair of collection system components. This role involves operating a variety of vehicles and machinery, performing repairs on wastewater collection system infrastructure, and responding to customer concerns. The position also includes maintaining rights-of-way, performing landscaping, managing parts and supplies, maintaining records, inspecting equipment, and responding to emergencies on a 24-hour on-call basis as scheduled. Continuous learning through meetings and training is also expected.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid SC State Class “A” driver’s license within 6 months of hire date.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) of years of experience in the operation and hauling of heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy and specialized equipment for the installation, maintenance, and repair of collection system components.
  • Operates trucks, trailers, track hoes, back hoes, front-end loaders, low boys, tankers, bull dozers, motor graders, rollers, pans, compactors, etc.
  • Operates a jack hammer, pipe saw and other assorted hand/power tools.
  • Hauls equipment and supplies to work sites.
  • Performs repairs and replacement of wastewater collection system force mains, sewer lines, manholes and other system components.
  • Raises and lowers manholes.
  • Installs new sewer mains, manholes and service laterals and replaces existing sewer mains.
  • Makes service taps on existing sewer mains.
  • Makes use of lasers in the installation of sewer mains.
  • Makes use of surveying equipment, levels, grade rods when establishing grades.
  • Responds to customer concerns and takes corrective action when problems arise.
  • Maintains and repairs rights-of-way, creek banks and creek crossings.
  • Performs routine landscaping work as necessary at the completion of maintenance and repair projects to repair property damage.
  • Requests parts, supplies, and materials necessary for daily tasks.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of work performed.
  • Inspects equipment for proper and safe working condition, cleans and maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints, and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility.
  • Works on call 24 hours per day as scheduled for emergency response.
  • Attends meetings, training, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
