About The Position

Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator I (Streets). The Heavy Equipment Operator I (Streets) reports to the Streets Supervisor. The primary functions of this position include: Operating a variety of heavy equipment, however on a daily bases you will be assigned to a street sweeper. Other equipment will include dump trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, street sweepers, asphalt rollers, motor graders, and vactor trucks. Performing scheduled maintenance and repair on Town streets, rights-of-way, medians, and storm water drainage systems Completing asphalt repair and replacement work, from excavation through compacting and rolling Hauling, loading, and transporting materials and equipment for assigned street maintenance projects Conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and responding to emergency situations as needed. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Employment with the Town of Gilbert is at-will.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of experience operating equipment such as a street sweeper, skid steer, backhoe, front-end loader, 10-wheel dump truck, asphalt roller, water truck, vactor truck, tractors, motor grader, and/or asphalt distributor truck (or an equivalent combination of experience and training)
  • Class A CDL at the time of hire or promotion
  • Pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Operating a variety of heavy equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, street sweepers, asphalt rollers, motor graders, and vactor trucks.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance and repair on Town streets, rights-of-way, medians, and storm water drainage systems.
  • Completing asphalt repair and replacement work, from excavation through compacting and rolling.
  • Hauling, loading, and transporting materials and equipment for assigned street maintenance projects.
  • Conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Responding to emergency situations as needed.
