About The Position

Responsible for the safe and effective operation of light equipment and the Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS) to help keep the Solid Waste Facility in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality 1590B rules and regulations and support disposal operations while keeping accidents and injuries to a minimum.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One-year experience in a heavy equipment environment
  • One-year verifiable experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment weighing under 100,000 lbs.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Must pass a physical examination
  • Must be able to work outdoors and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work various shifts
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
  • Must be able to work weekends when needed
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of landfill operations
  • Knowledge of GCCS operations
  • Class A CDL
  • Working knowledge of GPS survey and/or conventional surveying

Responsibilities

  • Operates complex motorized equipment under 100,000 lbs. (haul truck, Peterbilt dump truck and sand spreader, Peterbilt roll-off, motor grader, rubber tire loader, etc.)
  • Performs less skilled tasks associated with equipment operation and operates smaller equipment, such as HDPE poly fusion machine, skid steer loaders, forklifts, sweeper, etc.
  • Inspects and checks vehicles, equipment, and GCCS equipment before and after use, performs minor maintenance activities and reports problems to supervisor
  • Performs field work on the City of Denton GCCS
  • Uses technical equipment to monitor, record, and calculate the performance of the GCCS
  • Analyzes GCCS field data and adjusts wells for maximum efficiency and compliance with State and Federal Regulations
  • Occasionally confers with customer regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisor
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to supervise temporary workers and Community Service workers assigned to the Landfill
  • Organizes and files paperwork, drawings, and research projects
  • Completes required reports in a timely manner
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, holidays, Saturdays staggered shifts, a 4 ten-hour shift, Tuesday thru Saturday shift or a 5 eight-hour shift to meet business needs
  • May be required to respond to emergencies at all hours
  • Maintain regular and punctual on-site attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
