About The Position

Colorado Springs Utilities' Construction and Maintenance team is hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator - Hydro Excavator to fulfill core functions for Fort Carson's Water, Wastewater, Gas, and Electric teams. You, and these teams will support our commitment to the Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA). In this job, you will be responsible for operating hydro excavation units, light equipment, and heavy equipment for maintenance and repair projects for Fort Carson owned utilities infrastructure. Our Heavy Equipment Operator will work in a team environment and are expected to maintain a high level of safety awareness and team collaboration to contribute to the operation's overall success. This is a single pay rate role with starting pay $42.02/hr. Once you have completed probation (typically 6 months) your pay will increase to $44.11/hr.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience
  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Tanker Endorsement are required
  • Must be available to work overtime when needed
  • Subject to after-hours call-out and/or standby time
  • Required to Participate in emergency call-outs

Nice To Haves

  • Skilled operators are highly preferred
  • Class A CDL is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operation of various equipment to include but not limited to, Hydro-Excavation Trucks, track excavators, backhoes, skid loaders, wheel loaders, etc.
  • Transporting equipment to the job site
  • Assisting in project planning and setting up job sites
  • Assisting in training other operators
  • Coordinating major construction projects
  • Performing skilled activities in repairing utility collection, transmission, and distribution systems
  • Assisting customers with questions and providing information
  • Inspecting equipment, performing preventative maintenance on equipment, and scheduling major repairs
  • Operation of Class A, B vehicles and tankers
  • Assisting the Water, Wastewater, Gas, and Electric crews in the construction and maintenance of Utilities water distribution or collection systems, working in and near high volume traffic areas
