About The Position

Flare Construction, LLC, a Quanta Services Company, is seeking Heavy Equipment Operators (Levels I-IV) for civil construction projects across the western U.S. These projects include roads, bridges, grading, substation site development, right-of-way work, and underground utilities. The role is field-based on active construction sites, requiring travel to remote project sites and potentially extended field assignments. Outdoor work in all weather conditions is expected. Flare Construction's Civil Division specializes in civil earthwork, utility construction, and energy infrastructure projects, combining the stability of a Fortune 500 enterprise with the agility of a specialized field contractor.

Requirements

  • Some construction or equipment operation experience preferred (Level I).
  • OSHA 10-Hour required (or completed within 90 days) (Level I).
  • Valid driver's license required (Level I).
  • Minimum 2,000 hours of equipment operating experience (Level II).
  • OSHA 10-Hour required (Level II).
  • Valid driver's license required (Level II).
  • Minimum 20,000 hours of progressive equipment operating experience (Level III).
  • Extensive multi-project heavy equipment experience with mastery across multiple equipment categories (Level IV).
  • Demonstrated crew coordination and operator training experience (Level IV).

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 preferred (Level III).
  • CDL Class A or B preferred for equipment transport (Level III).
  • SWPPP awareness training a plus (Level III).
  • OSHA 30 preferred (Level IV).
  • CDL Class A or B preferred (Level IV).
  • Hazwoper or SWPPP awareness training a plus where reclamation work is in scope (Level IV).

Responsibilities

  • Earthwork, grading, and cut/fill operations on civil infrastructure projects
  • Road and sitework construction: base prep, subgrade, asphalt, and concrete support
  • Underground utilities: storm drain, sanitary sewer, water main, and conduit installation
  • Right-of-way clearing, grubbing, and reclamation work
  • Substation site development and energy-related civil construction
  • Safely operate construction equipment on active project sites.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift inspections; fuel, lubricate, and maintain equipment.
  • Follow all company and site-specific safety policies; wear required PPE at all times.
  • Report hazards, malfunctions, and unsafe conditions to the Foreman immediately.
  • Operate light equipment (skid steers, mini-excavators, backhoes) under direct supervision (Level I).
  • Support trenching, grading, and basic excavation tasks (Level I).
  • Operate dozers, graders, and mid-size excavators with growing independence (Level II).
  • Mentor junior operators when assigned (Level II).
  • Independently lead complex excavation, trenching, and grading operations across all equipment types (Level III).
  • Plan reading, grade stake interpretation, and on-the-job operator mentoring (Level III).
  • Expert-level operation of all equipment types for complex or large-scale scopes (Level IV).
  • Crew coordination, operator training, safety briefing leadership, and equipment documentation (Level IV).
