About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for performing maintenance and repair of construction equipment and vehicles, including diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, commercial trucks, and paving equipment. This position routinely requires the use of personal and/or company vehicles on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Employees in this position may be subject to random Motor Vehicle Record and alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment. Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of computer equipment testing technologies.
  • Provide personal hand tools and storage necessary to perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment (i.e., wrenches and sockets, larger tools supplied by Jordan Foster Construction)
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and/or after hours if required.
  • Positive attitude and enjoy working in a team environment.
  • Strong work ethic with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Computer skills are a plus.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • 5+ years of shop/field experience working with the Heavy Equipment Maintenance industry and diagnosing & repairing.
  • Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clear MVR required.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including ground in varying weather conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/workday.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • Frequently works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Exposure to outdoor environment with machinery/equipment in the surrounding area.
  • Must be able to push/pull/lift/carry 80+ lbs.
  • Occasionally climb stairs or ladders, etc.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment is required, including but not limited to steel-toe shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
  • This position requires the use and operation of a motor vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding/Fabrication experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret parts and service manuals in order to properly diagnose repairs and order appropriate parts for various heavy equipment.
  • Perform visual inspections on equipment and provide a written report of conditions and deficiencies.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance service on heavy-duty equipment and vehicles, including cleaning, lubricating, and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs.
  • Inspect trucks, cranes, bulldozers, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.
  • Follow directions to accomplish tasks independently without direct supervision.
  • Utilizes a small assortment of hand tools to complete tasks.
  • Comply with safety precautions and understand the safety and occupational hazards of the position.
  • Maintains assigned area, equipment, and mechanic truck clean and well-maintained.
  • Diagnosing faults using computerized testing equipment.
  • Repair and adjust equipment and replace faulty and/or damaged parts.
  • Clean and service machine attachments like winches, blades, and side booms.
  • Report damaged or faulty equipment to the on-site supervisor and/or manager.
  • Performing major repair work when necessary.
  • Consult with other mechanics on jobs/projects and provide feedback.
  • Routinely travel from/to various job sites.
  • Enforce all on-site compliance with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, and company policies.
  • Regular attendance is required according to company policy to ensure the crew can operate at the normal efficiency level.
  • Performs other duties of a similar or related nature as assigned.
