Edwards Construction Group is seeking a dependable Heavy Equipment & Yard Mechanic to join their team. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the company's equipment, trucks, trailers, and tools. The position involves hands-on repairs, preventative maintenance, equipment transportation, and yard support. The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, be a problem-solver, prioritize safety, and contribute to keeping field crews productive. The company works on critical infrastructure along the Central Coast of California and values safety, accountability, and quality workmanship.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Experience working on heavy equipment, diesel trucks, trailers, or construction equipment
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and routine repairs
  • Ability to safely transport and secure heavy equipment
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening prior to employment
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, kneel, and climb as required
  • Comfortable working in a construction environment with exposure to weather, moving equipment, noise, and dust
  • Ability to safely climb ladders, stairs, and work around heavy machinery
  • Must be able to perform duties in a shop, yard, and field environment

Nice To Haves

  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, diesel trucks, trailers, and support vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system issues.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filters, lubrication, inspections, brakes, and routine service.
  • Perform minor welding and fabrication as needed.
  • Keep maintenance records up to date.
  • Safely transport equipment, tools, and materials between the yard and jobsites.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload equipment using proper safety procedures.
  • Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safety requirements.
  • Coordinate deliveries and pickups to support field operations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and shop.
  • Stage equipment, tools, and materials for upcoming projects.
  • Fuel, clean, and prepare equipment for daily use.
  • Report equipment damage, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
  • Help keep equipment ready to support field crews.
