About The Position

Perform maintenance and repair activities on heavy motor equipment and trucks. This role involves routine and preventative maintenance, as well as repair of various heavy equipment including solid waste compactors, solid waste trailers, dozers, backhoes, wind row turners, earth movers, drag lines, front end loaders, and trucks. The mechanic will also inspect, adjust, and repair electrical, fuel, hydraulic, vacuum, air pressure, trailer tarps, trailer landing gear, and mechanical systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing operational problems, operating various tools, instructing operators on equipment use, ordering parts, and maintaining maintenance records.

Requirements

Thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy diesel-powered equipment, trucks, and trailers.
Ability to effectively and efficiently diagnose and correct operational problems with heavy diesel-powered equipment and trucks.
Ability to read and understand manufacturers shop manuals.
Graduation from high school with courses in motor equipment mechanics and two (2) years of experience performing similar work, or any combination of training and experience sufficient to confirm ability to execute the responsibilities of the position.
North Carolina Driver’s License.
Ability to pass a background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

Diagnose operational problems with heavy equipment and trucks.
Operate hand, air, gas, and electrical tools.
Instruct operators in the proper use of equipment and trucks.
Order parts.
Maintain records on the preventive routine and emergency maintenance of heavy equipment and trucks.
Perform related duties as required.
