About The Position

Wallenius Wilhelmsen is hiring a Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Welder at its equipment processing center in Brunswick, Georgia. The role involves hands-on troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of heavy construction and agricultural equipment and associated mechanical systems. Work includes MIG welding as needed, completing work orders and other job-related documentation, and operating heavy equipment and forklifts. The position is based in a professional shop and yard, with regular outdoor work and exposure to weather, dust, dirt, fumes, and fluids. Starting pay is $28.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Requirements

• Current valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• High school education or demonstrated ability to interpret plans and directions, perform the listed duties, and prepare written requests and job-related documentation.
• Knowledge of observing and listening to operating equipment to identify malfunctions.
• Proficiency with basic hand tools, including hammers, saws, wrenches, pliers, torque wrenches, and air-powered equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical devices and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
• Ability to walk and/or stand for a full workday and meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Maintain regular attendance as required.
• Must pass a post-offer drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Complete all documents associated with the job, including work orders.
• Apply practical knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines and associated systems.
• Perform MIG welding when needed.
• Troubleshoot and perform diagnostics on various systems for disassembly, repair, and reassembly.
• Use test equipment, hand tools, and measuring equipment.
• Read and understand schematics and prints.
• Operate heavy construction equipment and forklifts.
• Work a full day walking and/or standing.
• Work outside in reasonable weather conditions and perform duties while exposed to dirt, dust, and equipment fumes.
