About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Inspector (HEMI) is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and determining the extent of repairs required, including necessary parts and time. This role involves inspecting work in progress, testing the final product, and approving repairs. The HEMI will dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools, examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges, replace defective engines and subassemblies, and test overhauled equipment for operating efficiency. Additionally, the HEMI prepares reports, information papers, and other documents. Experience in military/civilian light, medium, and heavy wheeled/tracked equipment, power generation, and ground support equipment is required. The period of performance for this position is not to exceed one year, with potential extensions to fulfill mission requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid REAL ID State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
  • Valid state Class A CDL.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Tier 1 Public Trust.
  • Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
  • Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Benning Installation.
  • Proficient in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military and civilian wheeled/track power generation and ground support equipment.
  • Familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of Modification Management Information System (MMIS).
  • Working knowledge of Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
  • Working knowledge of Army oil Analysis (AOAP).
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of experience in wheeled equipment maintenance or equivalent.
  • Able to operate electronic devices to input hours worked on timecards and complete assigned company training.

Nice To Haves

  • It is preferred the applicant to furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties.
  • Engineering equipment preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the work of other mechanics and provide support to the maintenance team to ensure satisfactory levels of customer service.
  • Inspect, test, and operate wheeled equipment (commercial and military) to determine serviceability and proper operation.
  • Use Automated Logistics Information System to maintain equipment records and document maintenance actions.
  • Maintain wheeled, construction, and grounding systems.
  • Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall components and accessories.
  • Dispose of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Operate, clean, inspect, and service wheeled equipment for maintenance purposes.
  • Practice good housekeeping, property accountability control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times.
  • Work with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers, and electrical testers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.
  • Receive guidance and direction from the Supervisor with regards to policies, directives, and professional development.
