About The Position

The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 2 is recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician II position in Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Kent, Cecil, and Talbot Counties. These positions are open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician II will perform routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment and to assist in performing major repairs and overhauls on vehicles and heavy equipment. This includes diesel powered, electronic computerized, and fuel injected equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three (3) years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment.
  • One (1) year of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy duty construction equipment and diesel engines.
  • Possess and maintain a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.
  • Obtain Special Commercial Driver's License Endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles depending on the type of equipment operated.
  • Satisfy the first level of the employing administration's certification program during the probationary period.
  • Obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulation 11.03.01.04, Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area prior to permanent appointment (for new employees to the Maryland Aviation Administration).
  • Obtain and maintain Commercial Vehicle Inspector's License (if required to function as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector).

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education.
  • Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.
