About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Heavy Equipment Lead Technician in East Peoria, IL! This Heavy Equipment Lead Technician is responsible for ensuring safely operated excavators, motor graders, and track type tractors to perform earthmoving projects using detailed instructions. Qualified applicants must demonstrate ability to operate site-specific equipment during the interview process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in advanced earth moving concepts and equipment applications.
  • Ability to set up and run machines with controls and laser equipment such as GPS, Accugrade, and UTS.
  • Must understand OSHA guidelines for ditch depth and back sloping for this machine family.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting field surveys and productivity studies.
  • Ability to utilize current equipment controls.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate-level computer skills, sufficient to use email and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience working under a structured safety program.
  • Demonstrated truck-loading skills with 90 and 180 degree swing.
  • Experience cutting a back slope, side slope an V ditch.
  • Experience in identifying and understanding the difference between crown and sheet drainage on road projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the operation of excavators, motor graders, and track type tractors to perform Endurance Testing and/or earthmoving projects.
  • Assists in scheduling the workforce.
  • Conducts stand up meetings and safety training as needed.
  • Issues work assignments and discuss these assignments with the operators.
  • Conduct rounds every 2 hours to ensure scheduled work is completed as requested.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring work assignments for other technicians and coaches as appropriate.
  • Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.
  • Responds to and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
  • Recommend activities to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems
  • Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations. Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.
  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
  • Maintains a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment yet demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
