About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is a highly skilled and valued individual who regularly exercises their expertise to service and maintain heavy equipment (Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Kenworth) designed for construction activities. This individual will work in the shop atmosphere along with field construction projects to travel to worksites to diagnose and fix equipment issues without supervision, in a timely fashion, enabling crews to resume work on major projects.

Requirements

  • Three to five years maintenance experience servicing and repairing trucks and heavy construction equipment, including scrapers, skid steers, bulldozers, excavators, and backhoes.
  • Significant experience with and ability to work on several makes and models of equipment, especially Caterpillar, Komatsu, and John Deere.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, work independently, manage time, multitask, and manage stress.
  • Highly effective communicator with the ability to interact professionally with vendors, customers, coworkers, and leadership.
  • CDL Class B endorsement or higher, or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
  • Must possess own basic hand tools.
  • Good driving record to be able to drive Company vehicles.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to scheduling needs.
  • Ability to pass pre- and post-employment drug screening and work history verification.
  • Ability to do and understand basic math equations.

  • Must be able to clearly explain steps and provide clear directions.
  • Must be able to complete and complete the paperwork required for purchase orders, time sheets, etc. and answer questions about the construction processes for field staff and other subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, overhaul and test major components, such as engines, fuel elements, hydraulics, and electrical systems using computerized tools and equipment.
  • Accurately troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment.
  • Read, understand, and apply mechanical, electrical, fuel and hydraulic schematics to repair work.
  • Diagnose Tier 3 and Tier 4 interim and Tier 4 final emissions systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating parts.
  • Remove, repair, and install major heavy equipment components in varying configurations.
  • Service truck trailers and maintain equipment inspection and service logs daily.
  • Maintain tools in good working order as per OSHA regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and initiatives and maintain commitment to the highest safety standards.
  • Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
