Under direct supervision, the Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, reconditioning, overhaul, and maintenance of customer and company heavy equipment and/or components. This role operates within the company's vision of working as “One Professional Team.” The position involves preparing accurate service reports, inspection reports, and managing work order segments. Effective communication with Service Writers, Shop Coordinators, and Shop Managers is crucial for understanding and following up on repair statuses and issues. The technician will clean, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components, prepare and inspect machines before delivery, and remove, disassemble, assemble, and install components and parts. A key responsibility is determining the reusability of parts according to Caterpillar guidelines and ordering replacement parts accurately. The role also includes servicing and maintaining company-owned or sold equipment, testing and adjusting engine and machine systems, diagnosing malfunctions, and analyzing customer repair needs. Staying updated with tooling, technologies, and systems, using safe working practices, and maintaining a clean work area are also essential. The technician will perform maintenance on new and repaired equipment, make warranty recommendations, and decide on parts replacement for optimal economic reusability. Other duties may be assigned by the manager.
