About The Position

Waste Control Service (WCS) is a private, locally owned, and operated recycling and waste management company offering solutions for sustainable management of all things waste. We offer collection services and consultation for both residential communities as well as commercial, industrial, and institutional organizations exclusively in the Greater Vancouver region. We have a head office and shop in Coquitlam B.C. and two recycling yards in North Vancouver where we primary process some of the recycling we regularly collect from our customers, which also operates as a recycling and secure shredding facility open to the community. As a member of our Team of Red Seal Mechanics, you are responsible for performing repairs and providing preventative maintenance on a variety of fleet vehicles in an environment focused on Safety.

Requirements

  • Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic or Commercial Transport Vehicle Mechanic.
  • Red Seal Certification is required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in Heavy Equipment Shop or 3-4 years as an apprentice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work well with others in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Class 3 driver’s license with air endorsement would be an asset.
  • Commercial vehicle inspector and asset.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance including working with hydraulics, air brakes, clutches, transmissions, heavy duty diesel engines on fleet vehicles.
  • Performs inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Proficient with electronic diagnostics and vehicle electronic systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
  • Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisitions new parts.
  • Performs service calls for emergency and break downs.
  • Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on driver inspection reports.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Health and Safety procedures and company standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
