Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for various maintenance activities common to a surface hard rock mining operation and the associated blasting, loading, hauling, and support equipment, including surface drills. The successful candidate may also be required to assist with other mine related activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician or equivalent with at least 5 years related experience with mining equipment (surface) including drills.
  • Previous experience with Sandvik, Komatsu and Caterpillar equipment.
  • Excellent proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical issues with mining equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Inspect equipment for proper performance, identify faults and malfunctions.
  • Adjust equipment & repair / replace defective parts, components, or systems according to the scope of work.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operational performance and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports, and parts lists. Staying current with industry and technical best practices and requirements.
  • Identify and report any unsafe work habits, workplace incidents and/or near misses.
  • Perform risk assessments prior to each task.
  • Maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Maintain an orderly work area and ensure housekeeping requirements are met.
