About The Position

Custom Truck One Source (CTOS) is seeking a Heavy-Duty Technician / Mechanic to perform both in-shop service and field (road) service calls. Initially, the role will focus primarily on in-shop work, with opportunities to transition into more field-based responsibilities as experience with CTOS equipment is gained and field service demand increases. The company operates from over 40 locations across North America, managing a fleet of over 10,000 trucks and employing over 2600 individuals, supporting customers in various heavy equipment industries including utility, forestry, construction, and oil & gas.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Alberta Skilled Trades Ticket or Red Seal, Heavy Duty Truck
  • Must hold a Class 5 valid driver’s License.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft office
  • You must have your own tools.
  • Physical effort to move objects and tools; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling and a high level of dexterity.

Nice To Haves

  • CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) experience preferred.
  • Class 1 or 3 driver's license a plus.
  • Electrical, schematic / blueprints, hydraulic, welding, and related experience
  • Experience with Quick Serve, DTNA, or related diagnostic software.
  • CVIP, ANSI, and Dielectric testing desired.
  • Journeyman or Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician - Off Road and/or On Road is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on utility trucks and equipment, including hydraulics, electrical systems, and diesel engines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and repair orders/instructions to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Utilize a laptop to access information and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Perform work as outlined in work instructions set forth by the Service Manager, efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with CTOS standards.
  • Diagnose and repair utility trucks and equipment, including electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspect and service vehicles, making repairs and adjustments both at the service center and in the field.
  • Verify work performed and road test vehicles as necessary.
  • Prepare inspection reports, repair orders (recording service time and parts costs), and timecards completely and accurately.
  • Tag all warranty and core parts for return.
  • Advise management immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Attend CTOS safety training and follow all safety requirements.
  • Attend CTOS and factory-sponsored training classes.
  • Understand and follow federal, province, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and internal departments to ensure minimal equipment downtime.
  • Travel as needed, including flexibility to travel beyond the area of coverage based on business needs.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager to grow and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Perform additional duties or responsibilities as designated by the Service Manager.
