About The Position

This role involves performing general overhauls of plant equipment such as loaders, crushers, mixer and quarry trucks, forklifts, graders, skid loaders, and compressors. The mechanic will rebuild equipment components, troubleshoot malfunctions, and perform repairs, adjustments, and maintenance. The position may also involve performing duties of other mechanics or welders, using various hand and power tools, and driving pick-up trucks for road testing equipment. The role includes performing periodic P.M. checks, servicing equipment (cleaning, oiling, and lubricating), and preparing necessary reports and requisitions. Assistance to other tradesmen and trades helpers is also a key responsibility. The position requires adherence to safety procedures and may involve night shift work and other related duties.

Requirements

  • CDL Class B license
  • Valid DOT medical card
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Mechanic certification from an accredited program (ASE diesel mechanic or equivalent)
  • 4+ years of experience working on heavy equipment
  • Light welding experience
  • GED and/or equivalent combination of experience
  • Must become a member of the ILWU local 142
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Working knowledge in repair, parts, and operation of heavy equipment
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Ability to work independently to assess and repair equipment appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Perform general overhauls of plant equipment including loaders, crushers, mixer and quarry trucks, forklifts, graders, skid loaders, and compressors.
  • Rebuild equipment components and troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Diagnose, repair, adjust, and maintain equipment.
  • Perform duties of other mechanics or welders as needed.
  • Use hand and power tools common to the trade.
  • Drive pick-up trucks and road test equipment in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Perform established periodic P.M. checks.
  • Service (clean, oil, and lube) equipment, plant compressor, pumps, and meters.
  • Follow established procedures for preparing reports and requisitions.
  • Assist other tradesmen with repairs.
  • Oversee the work of trades helpers and assist other mechanics and tradesmen.
  • Perform night shift work and other related duties as required.
  • Work safely and take action to prevent unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
