About The Position

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 100 employees and a fleet of over 30 fully equipped service trucks, serving customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These are primarily shop-based positions with some fieldwork as required. We are looking for experienced, career-driven technicians who can work independently, take ownership of their work, and consistently deliver safe, high-quality results. Candidates must be professional in their approach, able to work effectively with both team members and customers, and comfortable operating in demanding environments.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience with off-road heavy equipment.
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
  • Not seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).

Nice To Haves

  • Service truck or field experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Experience with mining equipment will be considered an asset.
  • Machine brands preferably worked on include Hitachi, Komatsu, CAT, and John Deere.
  • Experience with surface drills is considered an asset.
  • Experience with electric and hydraulic shovels will be considered an asset.
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician preferred or 421A.
  • Truck and Transport Mechanics and or Agricultural Equipment Technicians with mining equipment experience will be considered.
  • A Red Seal is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various types and brands of heavy equipment and shovels.
  • Utilize computerized and other testing equipment to determine repairs and create detailed service reports.
  • Transmission and drive-train repairs: repairing or replacing transmission components, differential gears, and drive shafts.
  • Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders.
  • Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and ensure compliance with preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance.
  • Make recommendations for repairs and improvement methods.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, site regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date certification and training as required.
  • Arrive at work fit for duty each day.
