About The Position

This is a Non-Exempt position. The Heavy Construction Equipment Operator is a skilled level in a career path for maintenance, construction and repair of roadways that includes land contouring. The Heavy Construction Equipment Operator requires skill at operating a range of equipment; motor grade, bull dozer, front-end loader, scraper, 10 CY dump truck, snow plow, sander truck, pneumatic and steel drum roller, backhoe, excavator other equipment as needed, performing The Heavy Equipment Construction Operator will have competency in understanding grading and contouring of slopes to match survey stakes, to fill, blade, and level materials for the base layer of roads, to rip or break hard ground and surfaces, excavate or remove soil from construction areas, and backfill ditches to contour markers. The Heavy Equipment Construction Operator requires the ability to train and observe safe work habits and analyze contours, layouts, and routes.

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Four years of experience in the construction, repair, and/or maintenance of public infrastructure or a related field preferred.
• Valid Class A driver’s license
• Eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance and maintain license and insurance throughout employment.
• Red card
• Pass a physical and moderate pack test.
• Take the LCES S-130 annually to maintain red card certification.
• CPR/1st Aid card or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
• Knowledge to perform job satisfactorily.
• Knowledge of reservation districts and area roads.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment operation.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair of heavy and power-driven equipment.
• Knowledge of new methods and techniques of operation and the part of the equipment.
• Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
• Knowledge of both manual and electronic operations.
• Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of construction, maintenance, and repairs.
• Specialized knowledge of the operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of power-driven heavy equipment.
• Working knowledge of inspection, designs, contouring, repair, or replacement methods used in landfills, right-of-way, streets, parks, storm water and drain systems.
• Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices sufficient to train and observe work of team members.
• Sufficient math skills to record distance and volume measurements and to accept and count payments of fees.
• Sufficient human relation skills to work as part of a team and demonstrate courtesy to customers.
• Knowledge of earth and gravel maintenance.
• Ability to perform a variety of labor to skilled heavy equipment operation, construction, and repair work in the area of work assigned and assist or participate with other Specialists in related areas.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, diagrams, maps, specifications, measurements, and blueprints.
• Ability to use a personal computer to access and print maps and other printed material, to evaluate system conditions, and to record and store field data.

Responsibilities
