The Heat Treater Specialist is responsible for heat treating a variety of steel parts and tools, requiring ingenuity to prevent warping and ensure proper calibration of instruments. This role involves selecting the correct timing for case depth, paying close attention to electric furnaces for accurate heating and treatment timing, and selecting the appropriate quenching medium as determined by the Metallurgical Lab or Supervision. The specialist will operate hardness testing equipment and may occasionally operate a cyanide pot. There is potential for specialization in either steel or heat treat. The role also includes setting up and operating equipment such as Gleason Quenching Presses, Lepel, or other high-frequency welding or induction heating machines, as well as starting and operating a Neutralene Generator and utilizing a nitrogen/methanol system, ensuring proper operating conditions.
