About The Position

This role involves operating heat treatment processes for magnesium and aluminum castings according to customer procedures and work instruction specifications. The operator will be responsible for ensuring proper temperature control, accurate documentation of heat treatment times, and efficient operation of equipment. The position requires a strong attention to detail, good math aptitude, and the ability to follow written instructions and safety protocols. The operator will also be involved in improving casting properties such as tensile strength, ductility, and hardness, and will perform quenching processes.

Requirements

  • Good vision/sight (must meet industry standards), depth perception, hearing, and hand-eye coordination, and dexterity.
  • Above average math aptitude.
  • Ability to follow written work instructions.
  • Ability to multitask and meet production goals and deadlines.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to grip, push, and pull with 80lb strength on a regular basis.
  • Ability to generate 15lbs of pinch strength on occasion.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Ability to perform elevated work on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to stand on concrete up to 8 hours.
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with Excel and Outlook programs.
  • Ability to read and tell time for multiple ovens at one time.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with heat-treating.
  • Previous experience with metal casting processes and foundry manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Using magnesium and aluminum heat treatment process to follow customer procedures and work instruction specifications.
  • Ensuring legible handwriting for accurate reporting and documentation.
  • Completing and passing an annual exam.
  • Reading diagrams precisely.
  • Reading, setting, and controlling temperature and oven gauges to ensure the proper temperature is met per written work instructions.
  • Keeping accurate documentation of heat treatment times, including reading and telling time for multiple ovens, casting numbers, and other required information.
  • Operating an electric pallet jack, scissor lift, and other equipment necessary to move castings.
  • Improving properties, tensile strength, ductility, shock resistance, hardness, relief of casting stresses, and decreasing possible warpage of the casting after machining.
  • Monitoring and ensuring each casting is run through the oven using the proper heat treat process.
  • Communicating with different levels of employees, management, and departments to ensure the heat treat process is being done properly.
  • Completing the process by quenching, which is a cooling process using either air, water, or the Yukon quenching method.
  • Passing a test once training is complete to demonstrate the ability to perform the job efficiently.
  • Following all safety rules and wearing all required personal protective equipment.
  • Cross-training within the classification.
