A Hearing Technician in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is responsible for helping to assist with the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening (NBHS) program at Tampa General Hospital (TGH). The NBHS Program at TGH is a federal-mandated program that requires all newborns (in both the nursery and NICU) to receive a hearing screening prior to discharge from the hospital. The technician will work as part of the NBHS team which consists of a licensed audiologist and USF Doctor of Audiology student screeners that provide screenings, educate parents and families on the relevance of hearing screenings and earl intervention, assist with record keeping of hearing screen results, and assist in reporting screening data to the Florida Department of Health. The ideal candidate will have a willingness and ability to learn and operate hearing screening equipment, attend all required trainings, possess basic computer skills, and must be able to lift or move up to 15 lbs. The NBHS program operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This position averages 15 hours per week, however, the technician may work more hours or fewer hours dependent upon need or hospital census.
