About The Position

The Hearing Officer at Nottoway Correctional Center is responsible for presiding over all inmate disciplinary hearings, processing related forms, and monitoring the penalty offer process. This role oversees and administers procedures for disciplinary hearings and actions, contributing to the promotion of positive inmate behavior by applying consequences to negative actions. The position also provides staff with a means for proper inmate management and ensures compliance with Department policy and Division and Institutional operating procedures.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) policies and procedures.
Computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Outlook.
Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate information and/or evidence to conduct a fair and impartial hearing.
Demonstrated ability to make a sound and impartial finding of guilt or innocence and to explain charges, rules, and regulations.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize data and conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner and to document results of the disciplinary hearings.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply policies and guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to train staff and inmates in the application of disciplinary process.

Nice To Haves

Ability to speak Spanish.
Considerable knowledge of VADOC Inmate Discipline Procedure.

Responsibilities
