About The Position

The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) promotes student well-being and creates a healthier campus community through programs, education and environmental approaches. The Healthy Spaces & Mindfulness Graduate Student Assistant supports the development and implementation of the Healthy Spaces strategy, as well as supports mindfulness work on campus. Duties will include researching best practices for built and natural environments in higher education, working on GIS wellness maps, and creating mindfulness education resources.

Requirements

  • A graduate student enrolled at UT Austin
  • Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage a variety of tasks, follow up on assignments, and take initiative on projects

Nice To Haves

  • Interested in the connection between well-being and the built and natural environment
  • Skilled in public speaking, group facilitation, and/or community building
  • Experience with program or event planning, promotion, and/or evaluation
  • Familiar with common challenges and mental health-related concerns of college students
  • Working familiarity with UT campus and student support resources
  • Personal experience with mindfulness
  • Some knowledge or experience with GIS mapping

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation of the Healthy Spaces strategy by compiling existing campus resources focused on the built and natural environment, researching what’s happening on other higher ed institutions, and brainstorming ideas for more Healthy Spaces on campus.
  • Support the continuation and expansion of campus wellness maps and the Nature Rx program.
  • Support the creation of the Healthy Spaces strategy by meeting with student groups interested in wellness focused on the built and natural environment and creating plans for more Healthy Spaces on campus.
  • Facilitate interactive workshops with groups of students to build community and provide well-being strategies. Some workshops will be in the evening on weekdays. Some evening flexibility will be helpful.
  • Assist with the planning and co-facilitation of Foundations of Stress Management course.
  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials, including social media posts, web content, and print materials.
  • Assist in outreach across disciplines, departments, and units to build cross-campus connections and promote new initiatives.
  • Compile information for use in infographics, proposals, and annual reports as needed.
  • Support the implementation of healthy spaces and mindfulness program assessments.
  • Synthesize data and feedback to improve healthy spaces and mindfulness programming and ensure programming is effectively meeting the diverse needs of students.
  • Engage in administrative activities to support other LWC programs as needed.
  • Assist in engagement in targeted email outreach to staff, faculty, departments, and student organizations, and respond to incoming requests as needed.
