About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the community. The role involves promoting healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development, serving as a role model for staff and participants. The coordinator collaborates with the Director of Operations to create and lead staff in executing programs, wellness challenges, and curriculum to advance the YMCA's mission, ensuring safety, licensing standards, and the organization's reputation while providing excellent customer service. The position also involves leading staff in delivering quality health and wellness programming, overseeing daily operations within budget, and planning/coordinating healthy living programs, orientations, and group exercise classes. The coordinator is expected to lead by example, promote YMCA programs, recruit new participants, and assist with staff management, including recruitment, training, development, and evaluation of group exercise instructors. Building relationships with staff, participants, and community partners is crucial, as is ensuring the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of group exercise facilities and equipment. The role also includes tracking attendance, managing budgets, ordering equipment, and coordinating promotions for group fitness programs. As a Mandated Reporter, the individual must recognize and report signs of abuse or neglect.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • Team player, with superb interpersonal skills. An ability to work with co-workers and the public in a positive and friendly manner and resolve conflicts as needed.
  • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
  • General computer skills with the ability to effectively learn and use new software.
  • Personal Training and/or Exercise certification required within 120 days.
  • High School degree or GED, or the equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development.
  • Serves as a role model for other staff and participants.
  • Creates and leads staff in executing programs, wellness challenges, and/or curriculum for the advancement of the YMCA while ensuring safety, licensing standards, and the YMCAs reputation and providing the highest level of customer service.
  • Leads staff in providing quality health and wellness programming while adhering to all standards, including group exercise, personal training, small group training, and fitness classes.
  • Oversees the department's daily operations while adhering to budget objectives.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates healthy living programs, orientations, and group exercise classes, ensuring proper exercise and behavior techniques, safety, modifications, and progressions as well as a variety of offerings that meet members’ needs.
  • Leads by example, creating an energetic and welcoming YMCA experience for members and visitors.
  • Promotes Y programs and services to existing and potential members and recruits new participants.
  • Assists the Director of Operations with staff communication and directly oversees staff recruitment, training & development, and management.
  • Hires, trains, manages and evaluates group exercise instructors to maintain high standards and consistency in classes.
  • Organizes and leads staff meetings and ensures attendance.
  • Oversees payroll.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with staff, participants, and community partners and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Ensures group exercise facilities and equipment are maintained, updated, organized and clean and safety protocols are followed at all times.
  • Tracks attendance manages class-related budgets, orders equipment, and coordinates promotions and communications for group fitness programs.
  • Recognizes signs of abuse or neglect and reports to supervisor and the appropriate authorities as a Mandated Reporter.
  • Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.
