About The Position

REACH Riverside is seeking a Healthy Food Access Specialist to help lead programs that increase access to fresh, healthy food throughout Northeast Wilmington. In this hands-on role, you'll help operate community food initiatives, engage volunteers and community partners, and support innovative urban agriculture projects that improve the health and well-being of our neighbors. As the Healthy Food Access Specialist, you'll coordinate WRK Group's healthy food access initiatives by supporting food production, food distribution, volunteer engagement, and community partnerships. You'll help ensure programs operate efficiently while expanding equitable access to fresh, nutritious food for the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two or more years of experience in urban agriculture, hydroponics, community gardening, food access programs, or related work.
  • Passion for community engagement, food equity, and neighborhood revitalization.
  • Satisfactory criminal background, reference, fingerprinting, child abuse registry, and sex offender registry checks.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse community members and partners.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn food safety, urban agriculture, and food production practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software.
  • Adaptability, professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or degree in public health, nutrition, agriculture, environmental studies, food systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers, community outreach, or nonprofit programming preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily operations of healthy food access programs and initiatives.
  • Support urban agriculture efforts, including indoor growing systems and community growing spaces.
  • Oversee planting, harvesting, packaging, inventory, and distribution of fresh produce.
  • Coordinate food pickups, deliveries, donations, and community distribution efforts.
  • Monitor food inventories and maintain safe, organized food access locations.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers and community partners.
  • Develop relationships with community organizations, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Track program outcomes, maintain accurate records, and assist with grant reporting.
  • Recommend improvements that strengthen food access, program effectiveness, and community impact.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and organizational policies.
