The Healthy Families program is a free, voluntary program that works closely with parents of newborns through home visits, aiming to promote positive parent-child relationships, support healthy childhood growth and development, and enhance family functioning by teaching parents to identify strengths and utilize problem-solving skills. We provide information on child development and infant care, free screenings, and connections to community services. This role specifically involves promoting positive parent-child relationships, supporting healthy childhood growth and development, and enhancing family functioning for families with newborns in Multnomah County through home visiting.

Requirements

  • Bilingual Spanish/English required.
  • Experience and humility to work with culturally diverse families.
  • Experience working with Latinx communities required.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to provide strengths-based, client-centered services in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships and accept individual differences.
  • Willing to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision).
  • Ability and willingness to work as a dependable, flexible team member and support Impact NW’s mission and goals.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Must be able to function independently and use ethical judgment in making decisions.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple and varied tasks.
  • Possess excellent time management skills.
  • Some computer skills needed.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and provide own dependable transportation to drive on behalf of agency.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education, social work or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development, Infant Mental Health Endorsement® through Oregon Infant Mental Health Association preferred.
  • Experience providing early childhood education services to low-income children ages prenatal to 5 years and their families, experience in providing parent and child development services for families with infants and toddlers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver parent and child education services in home visit settings to parents and their babies 0-3 years of age according to families’ individual goal plans, families’ needs, developmental stage of baby, and using a variety of curriculum.
  • Work with families, supervisor, and Healthy Families team to promote positive parent-child relationships, support healthy growth and development, enhance problem-solving skills and improve support systems.
  • Effectively work with families and individuals of diverse backgrounds (including teen parents; families with mental health, substance use, or domestic violence concerns; families experiencing poverty).
  • Maintain accurate, legible, timely documentation detailing contact and progress of families.
  • Complete on-going evaluation documentation and assessments for each family in accordance with Healthy Families standards and requirements.
  • Connect families with community resources and support self-advocacy across systems.
  • Encourage and facilitate family participation in program and community activities.
  • Serve as a cohesive member of the team, participate in problem solving and promote innovation.
  • Provide support and development opportunities to new staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Meet weekly for 1.5 hours with supervisor for supervision.
  • Fulfill all training and evaluation requirements as established by Healthy Families standards and Impact NW.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Oregon or Washington driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and reliable access to a personal vehicle.
  • Use a personal vehicle to travel to and from home visits and other work-related locations and to transport resources, supplies, and materials necessary to perform job duties.
