Healthcare Technician
About The Position
Following a direct protocol, policy or procedure or order from a licensed provider, this role provides technical support to professional medical and nursing staff. Duties consist of routine clinical tasks such as collection of laboratory specimens, performing adult venipuncture and adult and pediatric capillary sticks, and performing clinical laboratory tests to include hemoglobin, hematocrit, glucose, urine pregnancy, fecal occult blood, sedimentation rate and urine dipsticks. The role also involves sterilizing instruments, inventorying and ordering supplies, maintaining logs, files and records, collecting clinical data and compiling statistics. The Healthcare Technician works under the supervision of a licensed provider and requires evidence of specific training in performing specialized duties and functions based on area of assignment.
Requirements
- Ability to perform Healthcare Technician duties in a clinical setting.
- Ability to complete patient labs as needed.
- Ability to perform clerical activities.
- Ability to multi-task and organize work to complete assignments as the daily workload changes.
- General knowledge of counseling principles and methods.
- Ability to document accurately and timely and submit necessary reports.
- Required to maintain a valid driver's license and adhere to VDH's driver safety policies.
Nice To Haves
- Experience as a Nursing Assistant and/or Healthcare Technician in an outpatient clinical setting and/or public health a plus.
- Certified as a Nursing Assistant.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
