About The Position

This internship offers an opportunity to learn about how hospitals and healthcare organizations' reimbursement for patient care is determined and applied. It provides hands-on experience with healthcare financial data, claims management, reimbursement methodologies, and impact model reporting, while developing data analytics and business intelligence skills. As a Healthcare Reimbursement Analytics Intern, you will work with health care reimbursement specialists to analyze claims reimbursement data, create reports, and identify trends affecting healthcare financial performance while gaining knowledge on the healthcare payer negotiation and reimbursement process. You'll gain exposure to claims processing, payer reimbursement, denial management, and operational analytics.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) Healthcare Administration, Business Analytics, Finance, Information Systems, Public Health, or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis.
• Familiarity with SQL or willingness to learn.
• Strong interest in healthcare finance, reimbursement, contracting, revenue cycle, or healthcare operations.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in analyzing healthcare claims with focus on utilization, types of service, denials, reimbursement trends, etc.
• Use SQL to source claims data
• Use Microsoft Excel to organize, validate, analyze and summarize large healthcare datasets.
• Support reporting and dashboard development to identify reimbursement savings opportunities and inefficiencies.
• Reimbursement for commercial, Affordable Care Act (ACA), and Medicare claims for both metro and rural Nebraska
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders on claims and reimbursement focus areas
• Document findings and assist with presenting recommendations to stakeholders
• Find opportunities to improve patient access to care
