About The Position

Stantec's Buildings team aims to be the world's leading integrated design practice, fostering a collaborative culture and innovative, sustainable approach to create impactful buildings. The Interior Designer – Healthcare will play a key role in leading and mentoring colleagues, collaborating with architectural teams, and developing interior design aspects for healthcare projects. This includes space planning, interior architecture, materials, finishes, specifications, FFE, and signage.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes.
  • Thorough understanding of all phases of architectural document production through construction administration and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to participate in multiple projects and multiple teams simultaneously.
  • Ability to create project plans and schedules.
  • Accountability to project profitability.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Management of team deliverables with client expectations and requirements.
  • Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with building program.
  • Ability to develop floor plans, elevations, and details.
  • Ability to check team's work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of document production.
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
  • Ability to communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP, Newforma, Bluebeam.
  • Strong client management skills and internal team managerial skills.
  • Excellent presentation abilities, including ability to present abstract ideas to the client.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Interior Design.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in interior design.
  • Healthcare experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Project Management certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and schedules for smaller projects where Interior Design is the prime consultant, overseeing administrative aspects like contract negotiations, project set-up, invoicing, planning, and staff scheduling.
  • Participate in program development and other pre-design efforts.
  • Engage in workshop discussions with clients to understand project outcomes.
  • Oversee and lead teams in developing space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with the building program.
  • Oversee and lead teams in developing interior design, material palettes, and FFE through various visual formats to express design intent and coordinate with the Design Architect.
  • Understand and utilize BIM technologies for developing three-dimensional models of interiors.
  • Participate in design critiques and pin-ups.
  • Coordinate with outside consultants to ensure drawing set compatibility.
  • Ensure designs comply with building codes, sustainability requirements (e.g., LEED), and accessibility guidelines.
  • Evaluate and select interior systems, materials, finishes, and fixtures.
  • Coordinate building systems for compatibility with design intent and sustainable design principles.
  • Develop interior designs within cost parameters and maintain design intent through documentation and construction.
  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  • Complete FFE scope tasks from design and selection through bid, coordinating with client and project needs.
  • Adhere to Stantec's QA/QC and internal/external project auditing processes.
  • Participate in business development activities and project interviews where required.
  • Lead project proposals and RFP responses, and support larger proposals where required.
  • Mentor and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the profession and the firm.
