About The Position

The Integration Architect designs, develops and governs integrations between Affidea’s clinical and business applications, focusing on healthcare interoperability and the Group’s central integration platform. The role has technical ownership of the Central Mirth integration platform and combines solution architecture with hands-on integration development, including designing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting and optimizing interfaces and integration components. Working with Group and Country IT teams, application owners, clinical IT teams, project teams and external vendors, the role supports reliable, secure and scalable exchange of healthcare information among systems such as HIS, RIS, PACS and LIS. It drives standardization across Affidea by establishing reusable integration services and patterns and reducing unnecessary point-to-point integrations. The position covers healthcare integration architecture, Mirth platform development and operations, API and application integration, interoperability standards, monitoring, technical governance and project delivery. It also provides technical guidance and mentoring to developers and other technical team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 8 years of professional IT experience, including significant application and system integration experience.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in an Integration Architect, Integration Developer, Solution Architect or comparable senior technical role.
  • Strong hands-on integration development experience.
  • Strong experience with enterprise integration engines; Mirth Connect experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HL7 v2, v3 and healthcare messaging concepts, including ADT, ORM, ORU and SIU workflows.
  • Knowledge of FHIR and modern healthcare interoperability concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, web services and application integration.
  • Experience with XML and JSON and complex message or data transformations.
  • Strong scripting or software development skills, preferably including JavaScript and/or Java, C#/.NET.
  • Good SQL and relational database knowledge.
  • Understanding of synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns, messaging and queues.
  • Experience implementing error handling, retries, message acknowledgement, monitoring and logging.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex production integrations and performing root-cause analysis.
  • Understanding of source control, software development lifecycle and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience with cloud and hybrid integration environments.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare system interoperability, clinical data exchange, and patient, appointment, order and clinical-result workflows.
  • Experience working with healthcare vendors and their interface specifications.
  • Understanding of patient identification and data consistency challenges across multiple healthcare applications.
  • Awareness of healthcare data protection, security and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills, with ability to work at both architecture and hands-on development levels.
  • Ability to understand complex system landscapes and end-to-end data flows and translate business and clinical requirements into technical solutions.
  • Strong ownership and accountability, ability to work independently on complex technical problems, and strong stakeholder and vendor management skills.
  • Excellent technical documentation and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural organization.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare interoperability, integration or architecture certifications.
  • Experience designing and developing integrations between healthcare applications.
  • Understanding of DICOM and medical imaging workflows.
  • Experience with HIS, RIS, PACS, LIS or comparable clinical applications.
  • Microsoft Azure integration technologies experience.
  • Experience working in a multi-country or multi-organization healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end integrations between healthcare applications and define data flows between country-level systems and central Group platforms.
  • Define and maintain integration architecture, healthcare interoperability standards, development guidelines and reusable integration patterns.
  • Design and maintain solutions using HL7 v2, FHIR, DICOM and other relevant standards; support common patient, appointment, order and clinical-result workflows.
  • Analyze existing workflows and interfaces, recommend improvements, and support transition from country-specific or point-to-point interfaces to reusable Group integration services.
  • Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, interface specifications, message flows, technical documentation and integration inventories.
  • Take technical ownership of Affidea’s Central Mirth integration platform and its architecture.
  • Design and develop Mirth channels; configure connectors, transformers, filters and routing logic; and implement message-processing workflows and custom components.
  • Design reliable message processing with acknowledgements, retries, queues, error handling and recovery; monitor, optimize and troubleshoot platform performance and integrations.
  • Define monitoring, alerting, logging, high-availability, scalability, business-continuity, development, testing, deployment, version-control and release-management practices for the central platform.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces, APIs, integration services, scripts, message transformations and database components using relevant technologies.
  • Build and consume REST APIs and web services; implement data mapping, validation, error handling, logging and reconciliation mechanisms; and create reusable components and libraries.
  • Perform unit and integration testing, support UAT and production deployments, and resolve production incidents requiring development-level expertise.
  • Work with clinical and technical stakeholders to translate healthcare workflows into integration requirements and ensure appropriate patient identification and handling of clinical data.
  • Design synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns and define approaches for authentication, authorization, error handling, retries and API versioning.
  • Establish operational monitoring and escalation procedures, investigate failed, delayed or duplicate messages, conduct root-cause analysis and implement permanent improvements.
  • Review internal and vendor integration designs, evaluate relevant technologies, and ensure solutions follow agreed architecture and interoperability standards.
  • Gather requirements, lead technical integration workshops, identify dependencies and risks, provide estimates, coordinate implementation across systems and vendors, and support country rollouts.
  • Communicate complex integration topics to technical and non-technical stakeholders and provide technical guidance and mentoring to developers and other technical team members.
