About The Position

This Healthcare Data Analyst will provide key information obtained through data analysis establishing baseline performance and will track progress against goals for improving population health for major DHHS and OMS initiatives. The Healthcare Data analyst position is a full-time position. As a Healthcare Data Analyst, you will: Design and conduct analysis to establish baseline performance for and track progress against goals for OMS population health initiatives in order to reduce health disparities. Assist and support Department communication and outreach efforts to MaineCare members by identifying populations of interest in claims and enrollment data. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across DHHS on department-wide population health initiatives. Identify and obtain sources of data that are relevant to or that would inform OMS’s and DHHS’s population health priorities and quality improvement initiatives. Prepare and present reports to senior management within DHHS and to OMS staff.

Requirements

  • A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience that includes a bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Public Health, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field -AND- two (2) years of experience with data analysis.
  • Directly related professional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Prior experience in analyzing Medicaid program data or healthcare claims data.
  • A demonstrated ability to obtain, synthesize, and integrate a broad range of data (e.g. administrative, clinical, or survey) from multiple sources for use in analytic and financial initiatives.
  • A history of utilizing data and statistical analysis to test, challenge, and defend assumptions and to support planning and decision-making processes.
  • A history of working on population health initiatives that require researching, recommending, and implementing best practices in data collection and reporting.
  • Advanced technical skills in the use of spreadsheets (e.g. pivot tables, functions, macros/VB script, etc.), database query/scripting language (SQL), and reporting methodologies and statistical analysis skill sets.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with and knowledge of the Medicaid program and/or other health and human services programs serving low-income populations.
  • Lived experience with Medicaid and/or other health-related social needs common to individuals and families receiving Medicaid coverage.
