About The Position

Southwest Care Center (SCC) is a non-profit, FQHC-LAL providing medical, behavioral health, case management, community outreach, diabetes education, and pharmacy services in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM. They are proud to offer gender equity medicine, syringe exchange, and HIV/Hep C treatment, testing and other services. The organization is seeking an experienced full-time Healthcare Controller. This position supports all SCC locations in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, requiring the candidate to reside in the local market area and be able to travel between the two cities as needed. Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Controller is a senior finance role responsible for the strategic financial architecture of SCC. Working in parallel with the Accounting Manager, the Controller will lead the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function, oversee complex grant compliance, and drive the evolution of the Workday ERP system. This role is a critical component of the long-term leadership succession plan and serves as the primary local financial liaison for New Mexico clinical operations.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive financial leadership.
  • Experience in FQHC, Community Health Center, or complex Healthcare environments preferred.
  • Proven experience managing or optimizing Workday Finance (or a similar Tier 1 ERP like NetSuite/Oracle).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Must be based in or willing to commute to Santa Fe/ABQ for hybrid work to maintain a strong physical presence in our clinics.
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts to clinical staff and executive leadership with clarity and wit.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the $70M annual operating budget, partnering with clinical and operational leads to ensure alignment with SCC’s mission.
  • Develop sophisticated rolling forecasts and "what-if" models to guide the CFO and Director of Finance in long-term decision-making.
  • Provide deep-dive analysis into departmental spend and revenue performance, translating data into actionable insights for non-financial managers.
  • Provide financial oversight for federal and state grants, ensuring strict adherence to compliance and reporting deadlines.
  • Lead the financial preparation for the annual Uniform Data System (UDS) report and Federal Financial Reports (FFR).
  • Partner with the Pharmacy and Billing departments to analyze the financial health of the 340B program and optimize the Revenue Cycle.
  • Serve as the Finance "Super User" for Workday.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce manual data entry.
  • Design and maintain real-time Workday dashboards that provide clinical directors with immediate visibility into their labor costs and supply spend.
  • Collaborate with the Remote Sr. Financial Analyst to ensure all Workday data flows accurately from clinical operations to the General Ledger.
  • Work in close tandem with the Accounting Manager to ensure that strategic forecasts (Controller) are grounded in historical GL accuracy (Manager).
  • Proactively engage in cross-training with the Accounting Manager to master the organization's unique historical financial nuances as part of a formal succession plan.
  • Support the Accounting Manager during the annual external audit, specifically regarding grant compliance and internal control documentation.
