About The Position
Plan, coordinate, and deliver construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects at a hospital while keeping every project safe, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, infection prevention, and life-safety requirements. As the hospital's Construction Safety Coordinator and the central point of accountability for project management and executive reporting, you will partner with Facilities leadership, department directors, Infection Prevention, Safety, clinical teams, contractors, architects, and engineers to protect patient safety and minimize disruption to hospital operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project-management applications
- Ability to communicate effectively with executives, department directors, contractors, technical personnel, and clinical staff
Nice To Haves
- 5 years of commercial construction, facilities, or project-management experience
- Hospital or healthcare construction experience
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission and CMS requirements, and experience with PCRA/ICRA and ILSM processes
- Knowledge of NFPA 99, NFPA 101, NFPA 70, FGI Guidelines, and healthcare construction requirements
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, digital floor plans, or healthcare space-planning systems
- Experience with CMMS or facilities-management software
- CHFM, PMP, ASHE-related training, OSHA 30, or comparable credentials
- Healthcare-specific regulatory experience can be developed through structured training for an otherwise highly qualified commercial construction project manager
Responsibilities
- Plan and manage multiple capital, renovation, and operational construction projects, including scopes, schedules, budgets, milestones, and implementation plans
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and hospital departments; prepare scopes of work, solicit and evaluate bids, and bring recommendations to leadership for authorization
- Monitor budgets, commitments, expenditures, and change orders; identify project risks, schedule conflicts, and operational impacts
- Manage punch lists, inspections, commissioning, warranties, record documentation, and project closeout
- Develop and maintain Project Construction Risk Assessments (PCRA), Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA), and Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
- Support compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA 101, NFPA 99, NFPA 70, FGI Guidelines, and state and local codes; participate in regulatory surveys and keep documentation continuously survey-ready
- Serve as the hospital's Construction Safety Coordinator in partnership with the Safety Officer, conducting site inspections and overseeing infection-control barriers, negative air, hot-work permits, fire watch, egress, above-ceiling work, and utility shutdowns
- Track construction-related deficiencies and drive corrective actions through completion
- Meet regularly with department directors to evaluate renovation, equipment, and space needs; review drawings and coordinate relocations, space planning, and schedules around patient care
- Chair regular construction coordination meetings with Facilities, Infection Prevention, Safety, Security, Environmental Services, IT, clinical departments, and contractors
- Prepare regular reports and maintain an executive project dashboard for the AVP of Facilities and department directors, tracking every project from request through closeout and escalating decisions, risks, and concerns promptly
- Maintain complete electronic project files, contracts, purchase orders, invoices, permits, drawings, and contractor credentialing, and establish standardized document-control practices and project-management forms
