About The Position

As a Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Epidemiologist II, you will work closely with the HAI surveillance team on HAI/AR surveillance activities within the Division of Epidemiology and Informatics. In this role, you will conduct complex HAI outbreak investigations, coordinate with external partners, analyze data, direct and assist in preparing HAI reports, monitor multi-drug-resistant organism (MDRO) trends, interpret MDRO data to develop evidence-based HAI protocols, and implement HAI prevention/response strategies and control measures throughout Maricopa County.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience performing epidemiological or statistical analysis
  • Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related public health field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license is required upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • A public health degree from an academically accredited college or university, as recognized by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)
  • Programming experience in SAS, R, or a similar statistical software program
  • Experience conducting disease surveillance activities and managing analytical projects
  • Experience with case or outbreak investigation

Responsibilities

  • Use public health surveillance systems to monitor conditions of public health concerns and detect events that require additional investigation and follow-up, particularly for HAI-related cluster detection
  • Conduct epidemiological investigations with patients and healthcare providers to gather information about potential exposures
  • Assist Senior HAI Epidemiologist in MDRO prevention and response activities
  • Design, manage, and analyze datasets with statistical analysis software, such as SAS
  • Recommend, implement, and support public health interventions that contribute to the mitigation of a threat, hazard, risk, or incident and monitor intervention effectiveness
  • Collaborate with local, state, regional, and national-level partners to maintain and improve public health surveillance systems, data quality, and situational awareness
  • Fulfill data requests and produce epidemiological reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Serve as a liaison with other Maricopa County Department of Public Health offices to provide support to their work and program activities
  • Exchange health-related information and situational awareness report with federal, state, local, and tribal levels of government and the private sector to support public health emergency preparedness capabilities
  • Enhance surveillance and detection systems in response to incidents of public health significance.
  • Prepare protocols, policies, guidance documents, presentations, and training related to public health data management and epidemiological analysis
