Highmark Health•PA, Working at Home - Pennsylvania, NV

About The Position

The Summer 2027 Healthcare Analytics Data Science Graduate Internship gives graduate students hands-on experience applying advanced data science, statistical modeling, and machine learning to real-world healthcare challenges. Interns work with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders on healthcare analytics initiatives that may involve machine learning, knowledge graphs, time-series forecasting, statistical process control, anomaly detection, and interactive data visualization. Assignments depend on the intern’s technical background and research interests, as well as team priorities, and may include identifying unusual provider patterns, analyzing healthcare data with machine learning, exploring provider relationships through knowledge graphs, developing forecasting solutions, or creating tools for stakeholders to explore analytical results. The internship provides experience across the analytics lifecycle, including data exploration and preparation, statistical analysis, model development and evaluation, visualization, technical documentation, and communicating results. Interns use Python, SQL, Git, and GitLab, and may gain exposure to cloud-based analytics environments. With mentorship, project-based learning, and collaboration with healthcare analytics professionals, interns develop their statistical, technical, problem-solving, and communication capabilities while contributing reproducible analytical solutions. The program provides practical experience through direct exposure to the related business line, hands-on training, and an introduction to career opportunities in the business line and related areas. It is intended to help prepare participants for positions in the business. Work is performed under supervision, with guidance, training, and mentoring from senior personnel.
