About The Position

Wellfound Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a full-time Health Unit Coordinator to join their inpatient team. This role is a .9 FTE position, requiring three 12-hour shifts per week, with rotating weekends, from 7 am to 7:30 pm. The hospital, located in Tacoma, Washington, is a 120-bed acute care psychiatric facility accredited by the Department of Health and Joint Commission, serving both voluntary and involuntary patients. The Health Unit Coordinator supports patient care by performing general clerical, reception, and scheduling duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, while fostering positive customer relations and communications.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
One (1) year of administrative support in healthcare required, preferably in a mental health setting.

Responsibilities

Enters/transcribes orders into the information system and on appropriate forms, ensuring patient information is current and communicating orders to involved departments as necessary.
Performs receptionist duties, handling communications, transferring calls, answering questions, and assisting visitors according to established procedures.
Gives messages to patients and staff members.
Updates and verifies patient data in the information system and maintains unit-specific records.
Aids in making appointments if requested.
Maintains a neat and organized work environment, orders, stocks, and replenishes supplies and equipment, identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment, and enters equipment repair requests.
Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s Safety, Risk Management, Regulatory Standards, and infection prevention.
Participates in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities.
Participates in growth opportunities.
Works at Mental Health Tech as needed until scheduled staff arrive.
Completes bed board and EVS applications in EPIC for bed cleaning.
Provides customer service and meets patient needs as requested.
Communicates with dietary regarding meals when needed.
Delivers lab specimens as requested.
Assists in obtaining required patient information.
Completes insurance verification and registration of patients in I&A completely.
Manages WQs in EPIC to ensure proper registration for all patients.
