About The Position

The Health Unit Coordinator role is cross-trained to function as a Nursing Assistant based on departmental needs. This position combines direct patient care responsibilities with technical assistance to RNs and MDs, alongside various computer, clerical, scheduling, and supply management tasks essential for departmental operations. Requirements

  • Minimum of one year working in a hospital setting preferred; or a student nurse who has completed two years of nursing school.
  • Medical secretary experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED.

  • Bilingual a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and labels charts for incoming patients.
  • Transcribes physicians' orders accurately, neatly, and in a timely manner.
  • Notifies the Patient Care Manager of any missing information on orders.
  • Accurately enters all orders from Lab, X-Ray, etc., into the computer.
  • Ensures that each order on the physician's order sheet and kardexes corresponds with the number from the computer.
  • Secures records from previous admissions as necessary.
  • Prepares charts for transfer and secures photocopies as needed.
  • Prepares charts for discharge, ensuring completeness.
  • Notifies the Patient Care Manager of any missing documentation at the time of discharge.
  • Enters discharges into the computer when a patient has left the unit.
  • Lists all new admissions, diets, changes, or discharges on kardexes and enters necessary information into the computer.
  • Returns unused medications from the cassette to the Pharmacy upon patient discharge.
  • Checks medication supplies daily, obtains necessary medications from the Pharmacy, and supplies from CSR.
  • Notifies appropriate physicians of any consultations, discharges, transfers, or expirations.
