The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties related to updating and organizing information on nursing units, coordinating work within the unit and with other departments, reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor, and responding to inquiries and requests from staff personnel.

Requirements

• High School Graduate
• At least 2 years of clerical experience in a medical setting

Nice To Haves

• Successful graduate of an approved Medical Secretarial Program

Responsibilities

• Answer the telephone in a professional manner; direct calls to appropriate individuals and/or take messages
• Keep all necessary lists and schedules
• Maintain office supplies
• Fax and photocopy as needed
• Complete physician orders
• Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges
• Complete orders for the lab, radiology, etc
• Prepare documents for a transferred patient
• Coordinate specific work tasks with other personnel within the unit as well as within other units in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information
• Perform other duties as requested
• Participate in departmental or organizational meetings and trainings
• Demonstrate ability to use equipment relevant to the position
