The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) position at Aurora Sinai Medical Center is a full-time role responsible for coordinating tests and treatments with various departments for patients on nursing units. This role involves maintaining a working knowledge of departmental functions and services to facilitate scheduling, managing communications via telephone and hospital information systems, and screening incoming calls. The HUC also monitors and troubleshoots office equipment, maintains knowledge of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for ordering supplies, processes daily patient charges, and compiles necessary chart forms for patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations. Additionally, they obtain medical records for transfers, verify patient demographic information, and establish positive customer relations by responding courteously to requests and call lights, demonstrating proper phone etiquette, and fostering communication within the healthcare team. This role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and assessing patient status based on age-specific needs.
