About The Position

The Health Unit Coordinator, SRU (Specialty Resource Unit) is responsible for providing daily operational and administrative support for the unit and outpatient services. This role functions as a resource for clinical personnel regarding unit and outpatient operational issues. The Health Unit Coordinator anticipates the needs of the department and provides coordination of information systems, environmental, admitting, and clerical functions for patient areas within a medical center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. This is a part-time position with 24 hours per week, typically involving two 12-hour night shifts (7pm to 7:30am), which can include weekdays and weekends. Initial training will be Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm for the first two weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains unit information systems, including medical record integrity, forms management, timely response to faxes, printed material, and mail, ensuring accuracy of patient data.
  • Completes admissions, discharges, transfers, and short stay documentation in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability for patient charges/rental equipment and CCHMC charge capture procedures.
  • Ensures the unit maintains a designated par level of clerical supplies.
  • Ensures all areas within the division are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Maintains awareness of patient location and monitors traffic flow at the front desk and on the unit.
  • Assists with compliance of visitor policies and applying arm bands for parents/caregivers.
  • Reports maintenance and environmental service needs to the appropriate division and follows up to ensure completion.
  • Collaborates with clinical, admitting, information systems, and environmental services staff to coordinate efficient patient flow.
  • Identifies system problems and utilizes strategies for resolutions.
  • Responds to communication system/patient alarms with a sense of urgency.
  • Reviews and revises staffing information.
  • Demonstrates Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions, acting as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service.
  • Interacts with parents/guardians to obtain non-clinical information as requested.
  • Ensures and reviews timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information (e.g., HIPAA, Informed Consent, Advanced Directive for patients 18 or older) as defined by CCHMC's mission, applicable laws, and regulations.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of HIPAA standards and fosters application to clinical practice.
