About The Position

The SAH Health Unit Coordinator-Nursing Assistant is a cross-trained role, performing duties of both a Health Unit Coordinator and a Nursing Assistant based on departmental needs. This position combines direct patient care with technical assistance to RNs and MDs, alongside essential computer, clerical, scheduling, and supply management functions for the department's operation. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant training program.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year working in a hospital setting preferred
  • Medical secretary experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Student nurse who has completed two years of nursing school.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and labels charts for incoming patients.
  • Transcribes physicians orders accurately, neatly, and in a timely manner.
  • Notifies Patient Care Manager of any lack of information on orders.
  • Accurately enters all orders from Lab, X-Ray, etc. into the computer.
  • Assures that each order on physician's order sheet and kardexes have a corresponding number from the computer.
  • Secures records from previous admission as necessary.
  • Prepares chart for transfer and secures photocopies as needed.
  • Prepares chart for discharge and assures that the chart is complete.
  • Notifies Patient Care Manager of any lack of documentation at the time of discharge.
  • Enters discharge into the computer when the patient has left the unit.
  • Lists all new admissions, diets, changes, or discharges on kardexes and enters necessary information into the computer.
  • Returns to Pharmacy all medications that the RN has removed from the cassette at discharge.
  • On a daily basis, checks medication supplies, obtains necessary meds from Pharmacy, and supplies from CSR.
  • Notifies appropriate physicians of any consultations, discharges, transfers, or expirations.
