About The Position

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a Health Technician in Long Beach California at Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center. The Health Technician is a multi-skilled health professional who works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care for the patient. The Health Technician is educated and trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical care environment. The Health Technician is directly responsible to the nurse manager or any other appointed supervisor in the facility. Major Duties and Responsibilities In any area of assignment within VALBHS, the contract Health Technician provide direct and indirect treatment through assessing patient status and determining priorities. It also requires exercising independent judgment, organizational skills, communication skills and the ability to utilize an interdisciplinary approach in the provision of care. Services shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of this contract and are to include but not limited to the following. Contracted personnel will be required to have basic typing and PC computer skills with ability to enter clinical assessments in an electronic medical record. Documentation and ordering of patient care will be done electronically on the VISTA computer system. As a part of the orientation process, contracted personnel will be required to request and obtain an access code to the VISTA computer system. At which time, contracted personnel will have access to training Organizational Relationship: The contracted Health Technician are subject to the professional direction of the Chief, or designee. Functions: The contracted Health Technician functions within the policies of VALBHS, Health Technician services, will be directed to the needs of the hospital. The need for the Health Technician is to provide coverage to the inpatient areas including intensive care unit, direct observation unit and medical surgical telemetry.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a condition of employment.
  • Basic certification in the performance of Phlebotomy procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing electrocardiograms (ECGs), including proper lead placement, operation of ECG equipment, and basic recognition of common rhythm abnormalities.
  • Performs ECGs based on the clinical needs of the patient, ensuring timely completion, accurate tracing acquisition, and appropriate communication of any urgent or abnormal findings to the responsible provider.
  • Shift Type: Day shift: 0400–1630.
  • Schedule will be prepared by the DOU Nurse Manager and posted at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the scheduled work period.
  • Basic recognition of arrhythmia course/certification.
  • Must have one (1) year of work experience as a Health Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Provide required Phlebotomy needs to promote the program’s needs.
  • Perform required Electrocardiograms (ECGs) and any other support related tests.
  • Ensure that the inpatient ward’s needs are met in a support capacity to enhance patient care.
  • Comply with the objectives and policies of the hospital.
  • Contracted personnel will collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide appropriate care in accordance with unit standards.
  • The incumbent may be needed to work beyond regularly expected shifts as needed in various patient care units as assigned by department head or nursing supervisor to assist in any related task associated with their skill level.
  • Performs basic Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, turning, dressing etc.
  • Transporting patients using electric gurneys.
  • Provide up to 1:1 observation for patients that require close monitoring.
