About The Position

The JCDS Health Services team supports the health and well-being of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Health Services Support Professional is a flexible, team-oriented position that assists with medical appointments, care coordination, quality assurance, and administrative support to help ensure people receive timely, high-quality healthcare services. Working alongside Health Services Coordinators and nursing staff, this role helps maintain continuity of care while supporting the department's ability to meet the growing healthcare needs of the people we serve.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
  • Candidate must be able to successfully complete criminal and motor vehicle screenings, which includes KDADS screenings and registry checks, and a post offer TB test.
  • May require KS/MO driver’s license, depending on department or agency.
  • Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions.
  • Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of related experience working in a human services field is preferred.
  • Experience in the IDD field: DSP, CNA, CMA, or LPN
  • Medical terminology or medical records experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relay medical information accurately and promptly to healthcare providers, direct support staff, families, guardians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to recognize urgent medical issues and appropriately escalate concerns to Health Services leadership or nursing staff.
  • Ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgment during medical or behavioral emergencies.
  • This position requires performance of various physical components at defined standards for the safety of employees and individuals served.
  • This position may require the use of a personal vehicle to transport clients.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and assist with scheduled medical appointments as assigned. Primarily physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other rehabilitation-related appointments.
  • Provide appointment coverage when HSAs are unavailable due to illness, emergencies, scheduling conflicts, or increased workload.
  • Provide prompt, accurate , and professional communication regarding appointment outcomes, new orders, recommendations, and follow-up needs to direct care staff, Health Services staff, families, guardians, and other members of the individual's support team.
  • Provide or assist with personal care needs for individuals during appointments and while in the community, as needed.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and delegated in accordance with agency policies, Kansas Nurse Practice Act delegation requirements, and medication administration procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical emergencies while accompanying individuals, including implementing approved crisis intervention techniques and physical interventions, when necessary, to ensure the safety of the individual and others in accordance with agency policy and training.
