About The Position

Create and maintain a climate of health and well-being at the school site by working with the health and education teams to implement the Dysart health program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum Certificate requirement: must hold one of the following: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or out of state reciprocal equivalent.
  • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR adult and child) and First Aid.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Demonstrated competency in computer literacy, Word, and Excel.
  • Standard practices and methods of first aid and practical health care.
  • Standard practices, methods, and materials of assigned work.
  • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Business math concepts.
  • Filing and record-keeping principles.
  • Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a health office or doctor’s office, preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic first aid to students and staff due to illness or accidents.
  • Notification to parents, guardians, and emergency medical services as needed.
  • Administers health treatments (i.e. G-tube feeding, glucose monitoring, insulin administration, Epi-pen use, etc.) as directed by the physician, parent/guardian, and according to laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Acts as the Principal Designee to administer prescription and over-the-counter medications to students as directed by physician, parents, and according to laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures that all medications are secured in a locked storage area at all times.
  • Maintains the daily documentation of student health office visits according to Dysart Unified School District Health Office Operating Procedures including medication administration and special medical procedures.
  • Maintains and updates all health records and reports including immunization, treatments, health conditions, and health screenings.
  • Adheres to Universal and sate Infection Control guidelines.
  • Utilizes infection control principles.
  • Follows medical management plans/nurse care plans/emergency action plans, as directed.
  • Confers immediately with the Principal/RN when student condition necessitates.
  • Maintains the health office by organizing and disinfecting periodically.
  • Reports all matters of concern, such as suspected child abuse, contagious diseases, or other sensitive issues to the Principal and the Lead Nurse.
  • Maintains inventory and orders all necessary supplies within a given budget.
  • Assists school nurse with health screenings.
  • Conducts head lice screening when necessary; inform and educate parents of affected students regarding the appropriate treatments.
  • Acts as a liaison between students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Distributes health-related educational materials, including information regarding contagious diseases, to students, staff, and parents as needed.
  • Attends and successfully completes periodic in-service health related training as directed.
  • Prepares, send, and follows up on referrals as directed in the Health Office Operating Procedures Manual.
  • If licensed, registers and provides billing information for Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Lead Nurse, or School Nurse.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
