About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Services Administrator (HSA) – Registered Nurse (RN) to lead and elevate healthcare services at the Jackson County Jail located in Medford, OR. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the overall management and administration of medical care within the facility, ensuring patients receive high-quality, compliant, and compassionate care. As a key member of the MedHealth team, the HSA will guide nursing staff and partner with leadership to drive safe, efficient, and effective operations.

Requirements

  • Valid, unrestricted RN license in the state of Oregon
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers through American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • At least one (1) year of leadership experience

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of RN experience
  • Corrections experience
  • Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) or Certified Corrections Nurse (CCN) designation through NCCHC or ACA

Responsibilities

  • Competently functions as a member of an interdisciplinary care team which is focused and patient centered.
  • Manages unexpected or emergency situations that are commonly seen in a corrections population.
  • Competently and independently assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents daily work assigned.
  • Competently identifies patients care needs, formulates appropriate nursing diagnoses, develops and individualizes care plan, and revises plan of care as needed.
  • Competently executes physician's/NP’s orders for all assigned patients.
  • Administers medications and treatments and delivers appropriate nursing care in accordance with Applicable policies, procedures, and standards in a caring and compassionate manner.
  • Manages all financial and operational aspects of the contract.
  • Oversees all pharmaceutical, office supply, and medical supply orders, making sure that all necessary supplies remain in stock while still being a good steward of the taxpayer’s money.
  • Serves as the on-site liaison between medical staff and security personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with security personnel and community resources to maximize continuity of care.
  • Communicates with local hospitals to ensure a safe and timely transition back to the facility.
  • Manages all medical employees including recruiting, hiring, scheduling, performance appraisals, staff development, conflict mediation, discipline, and the determination of compensation levels.
  • Conducts New Hire training, Annual staff training, and Nursing education as needed throughout the year.
  • Reviews inmate grievances, assesses the provision of medical/nursing care and arranges follow-up care for identified problems.
  • Coordinates and leads monthly staff meetings, quarterly Medical Administrative Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Infection Control meetings with medical and security personnel.
  • Occasional fill-in for vacant nursing shifts.
  • Communicates daily with security personnel regarding high acuity, high cost, or otherwise concerning patients.
  • Follows all County Policies and Procedures with regard to security and patient contact.
  • Delivers care in accordance with established MedHealth Policies and Procedures.
  • Thoroughly documents all patient encounters in electronic or paper medical records in accordance with MedHealth Policies and Procedures, and within state, local, federal guidelines.
  • Communicates the need for special housing to appropriate medical and security personnel.
  • Other duties as necessary.
