About The Position
The Health & Safety Specialist supports safe onsite construction activities by identifying hazards and helping mitigate them using prescribed methods. The role works with onsite crews, management, subcontractors, and project teams to monitor safety risks, ensure equipment is available, respond to incidents, and support compliance. It also provides first aid and emergency services for onsite injuries and helps ensure appropriate documentation and medical follow-up.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks as defined by a supervisor.
- General knowledge of construction site equipment, methods, and processes.
- Verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Growing knowledge of how to control or eliminate hazards following prescribed methods.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in organizational health and safety or a related field.
- Experience in the construction industry or a safety internship.
Responsibilities
- Identify and document onsite safety risks or discrepancies during daily site walks.
- Track safety issues daily and recommend strategies to eliminate hazards as needed.
- Evaluate and identify safety equipment needs for project work.
- Participate in daily and weekly meetings to ensure necessary equipment is ordered, stocked, and available for upcoming work.
- Assist with investigations and reporting concerning accidents, injuries or illnesses, fires, property damage, and other safety-related incidents to support timely and compliant resolutions.
- Recommend improvements based on reporting trends.
- Work with onsite crews to provide first aid and emergency services for onsite injuries or incidents.
- Ensure worksite injuries are accurately documented and that offsite medical clinics attend to employee injuries accurately and promptly.
- Support evaluation of subcontractors and subcontractor safety programs.
- Notify management of non-compliant safety procedures and participate in corrective-action discussions to resolve issues promptly.
